OUT AND ABOUT
“There is no better playground than nature.“
– Beatriz Ferreira
Free play, learning and adventure in nature.
Nature is the best playground. Out there children can find everything they need to be their vibrant, creative and active selves. Nature’s diverse and stimulating environments engage children’s senses and sparks their creativity. Whether it’s climbing trees, splashing in puddles, or observing insects, these experiences in nature cultivate an irreplaceable sense of wonder, adventure and connection.
Sadly, in this world filled by screens and schedules, there’s a growing disconnection between children and nature, as their opportunities to free play outdoors are being consistently reduced. As result children specially in big cities are finding themselves confined to indoor sedentary experiences, missing out on the wonders that await them outside.
Playing outside has an incredible array of holistic benefits for children, and it’s something we need to encourage. When children engage in outdoor play, they embark on a physical journey that strengthens their bodies and hones their physical skills. But the advantages go beyond the physical aspect, studies have shown that spending time in nature reduces stress levels, enhances focus and concentration, and even boosts immune function.
Beyond the physical and mental benefits, nature play nurtures a deep connection with the natural world. It instills a sense of responsibility and environmental stewardship from a young age. When children immerse themselves in nature, they develop a profound appreciation for its beauty and understand the need to care and protect it.
On the emotional and social level direct contact with nature through play also produce amazing results, as Outdoor play is an incubator for social interactions and the development of crucial social skills. It’s a vibrant space for cooperative games, teamwork, and creative problem-solving, where children learn to communicate effectively and empathise with others.
So, let’s encourage our children to step outside, breathe in the fresh air, and let the magic of the great outdoors unfold.
